Lockdown Gaming: A Tasty Threesome

I am sorry - there is no filth here. It is just an eye-catching title full of bait. Now that you are here though, you can check this out; you probably don't have anything better to do right now.

Understandably, there is a lot of free time for those of us that aren’t essential or key workers. If you have been working then I salute you, thanks from the bottom of my heart. However, the following games I am listing will hopefully allow you to relax and chill out during quarantine in between shifts or if you’ve just sitting on your fat ass like me.

The following games are all available on Playstation 4, other platforms may differ. I have also taken into consideration price points and the current situation regarding finances for people.

HOTLINE MIAMI

This is a game I have only just purchased, two nights before writing this. But for a total of £1.99 – yes, not even 2 quid – this is an absolute steal. I’ve heard many good things about Hotline Miami but never really bothered looking into it. My days was I wrong to dismiss this title. I am maybe about halfway through it currently, and I am having a hell of a lot of fun. This top down, action-puzzle game makes you think but allows for some ridiculous set pieces that trades your quick thinking for sweet satisfaction. I expect my few hours spent with the game will expand over the average 6 hours it takes to complete the story of this game. There is an emphasis on completing the game in style with your performance being graded after each level. I would not usually consider myself as a trophy hunter, but I have been perusing the trophy list a couple times as it is considered a fair platinum trophy to obtain. This game kicks ass and makes me feel good when I solve puzzles on the fly – sometimes I do luck out. Dennaton Games have done an incredible job with this title, I can only apologise for getting to it too late – I will be purchasing the sequel imminently.

HORIZON ZERO DAWN

Speaking of trophy-hunting, next up is the only game I have ever bothered achieving the platinum trophy for. Is this my favourite game of the generation? Quite possibly, however there have been too many great Playstation exclusives – YES, I KNOW IT’S COMING TO PC – since the arrival of the PS4. Horizon Zero Dawn follows the path of Aloy, the outcast whose curiosity finds her in trouble more often than not, but almost as equally as much as her strong heart and kindness allows. This action-RPG finds your character in a world overrun by what are practically robot dinosaurs, now you see why I love this game, right? The action is fluid and enjoyable in Horizon, the dismantling of the mechanical beasts is incredibly fun and there is a vast world to explore. This is one for those who want to sink some time into a new game, be immersed in the world and not splash too much cash in the process. Guerrilla Game’s (these guys also made the legendary FPS Killzone) Horizon can be found at a relatively cheap price point of around £15.99 but it can be found with a bit of hunting for cheaper. Get it. Now. Go on. Why are you still reading this??

CALL OF DUTY: WARZONE

This needs no introduction. It’s Call of Duty’s FREE battle royale game mode. Yep, it’s free, it costs you absolutely nothing. I understand this may not be everyone’s cup of tea but this COD project is intended to last into the lifespan of future titles which provides this game will provide many hours of playing – if you like it. Let’s just breeze past the fact that I haven’t even got my first dub. This battle royale is hard. Comparing it to Apex Legends, Fortnite, Black Ops 4’s Blackout – all of which I’ve got plenty of wins in – this is a more ‘realistic’ shooter and that may appeal to people more. However, don’t say I didn’t warn you. Recent updates have caused issues with servers and matchmaking and there has been a massive uproar regarding PC players hacking on their win to victory. It is a highly fun game to play. You’ve got the infamous gulag, vehicles to troll enemy players with and the ability to call in killstreaks on your foes. Other than its price point, this game has been chosen because it allows for cross-platform playing. So, with everyone being indoors, we can play with our friends on Xbox, Playstation and PC all at the same time – pretty neat huh?
