No, You're Br-Br-Br-Breathtaking

So, it's been what, 5/6 months since my last post? Since that post the world has erupted with an election, lockdowns, new consoles, Christmas and the beginning of 2021. I would wish you a happy new year and 12 months of positivity but the sooner this planet succumbs to a meteor the better right? Also, Cyberpunk 2077 happened. A game described as 'the most hyped game of the generation'. Clearly no one remembers the masterpiece (although not for everyone) Red Dead Redemption 2, maybe it is because this year lasted about the average life expectancy of a Giant Tortoise (80-120 years to assist the lesser witted).

Ah yes, Cyberpunk 2077. A beautiful first-person RPG based in the world of Night City full of neon lights, odd looking folk and plenty of small details to discover. Unfortunately the game is (or was, depending when you read this) littered with bugs and glitches. Why does everyone use the word 'littered' to describe bugs in games? Anyway, it did not live up to the hype. I would like to add I am one of the few million who owns a PS5 and I had a couple crashes here and there, couple assets missing or audio glitches but nothing completely game-breaking. We have all read the drama; excitement, delayed, excitement, delayed, excitement, delayed, released, shock, pronouns, epileptic fits, trashed by game media and fans, refunds, no refunds, actual refunds and Sony removing the game from their store entirely. Nuts, absolutely nuts. Despite what everyone tells you, the game is actually very good, one of the best games of the year, but no where close to game of the year (yes, I know it doesn't count for 2020 but this is my website so I can do what I like). It's a shame that it turned out this way but there does appear to be some shady tactics deployed by CD Projekt RED but I am not interested in discussing it, it's all a bit boring if you ask me and overdone. The politics surrounding this title has grossed me out a little. As a bystander it seemed mainstream games media had issues regarding the culture of the game. Then they wanted to protect the devs from crunch. Most people crunch in every other sector of employment by the way, it's called overtime and you get paid for it, this seems a bizarre concept to journalists. This was then followed up by attacking the management at CD Projekt RED, who to be fair did seem to just take a dump on their own staff. It's the complete hypocrisy of this that annoys me though. It's bad to go after one set of people and it's good to go after another? Meh, it sucks and it's rather tiring.

Anyway, I want to talk about the performance of Keanu Reeves with his character Johnny Silverhand. The scandals surrounding this game seem to have overshadowed the stellar performance from the blockbuster actor. Everyone loves Keanu because he comes across as a nice, heart warming, "breathtaking" guy, who just loves dogs, which is perfectly acceptable and believable. However, the reason I appreciate Keanu's performance in Cyberpunk 2077 is because he is a total dick, an utter piece of shit. You might be thinking, why would you want that from a character you share 95% of the game with? He felt real. This is built to be an immersive experience and my verbal jostling with Johnny Silverhand was some of my favourite moments in the game personally. When he appeared randomly in cutscenes or during gameplay I was excited to see how the conversation would play out. His obnoxious, assertive and asshole behaviour bounced off me like a friend you've known for years that when you meet them you greet them with an insult, usually annoying people surrounding you that don't understand the bond. I really took to him. I felt that I was adopting his personality the more I played the game, which Silverhand suggests several times during the story. It really is a credit to the writing team at CD Projekt RED that they were able to manipulate my playing style in such a way just by the way I would shoot the shit with Johnny.

In a game with multiple endings (no spoilers here), I watched all other endings on Youtube after I had completed my Nomad playthrough, it's widely considered that I got the 'worst ending'. However, I found it to be the perfect conclusion to my story, it felt correct, especially given the way that I enjoyed playing as V, or the way Johnny Silverhand told me to. Maybe I am just a simp for Silverhand? Or am I a simp for Keanu Reeves? Thank god I stopped streaming on Twitch, they'd of banned me for even saying simp. Simp. And one more for good luck, simp.

It was a short update this time around guys but I felt I needed to get back into writing an I've been thinking about Silverhand for a while. If anyone is interested I'm currently on my first playthrough of Days Gone and you can expect to see a piece on that shortly after completion, it really is (so far) becoming a real hidden gem for me after it's poor release, sounds familiar right?

Until then, take care choombas.
